Future Ready: How can we avoid future shock with lifelong learning?

Wednesday, October 4th, 6:00-8:00 pm EDT (Via Zoom)

Presented by Anne Gemmell (LinkedIn here)

This 2-hour virtual session geared toward alumnae/i and seniors shares deep knowledge about the changing global economy, acquired from the facilitator’s career as an educator, advocate, public servant, collaboration architect and entrepreneur. This session develops essential professional skills such as communication for connection, understanding implementation and operations, conceptual thinking, reflective practices and social responsibility. Participants analyze the impacts of technology and practice strategic management of careers.

Participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the “future of work” from a systemic perspective
  • Evaluate education and training opportunities to inform lifelong learning strategies
  • Strengthen deeper self-awareness and leadership skills for highly effective career navigation
  • Build networks and social capital through substantive small group activities and discussions

The session will follow a format of short lecture, a skill-building exercise, an introduction to valuable resources and a rich whole group discussion. This virtual session will introduce the concept of future shock and relate it to the current rise in diseases of despair. Technology is advancing more rapidly than most institutions or policies can adapt. Participants will learn about corporate social responsibility and policy efforts underway and also practice evaluating education and training courses for their personal learning strategy.
