Three Bags Full, a Sheep Detective Story, by Leonie Swann (2008, 341 p.); translated from German by Althea Bell. A witty philosophical murder mystery with a charming twist: the crack detectives are sheep determined to discover who killed their beloved shepherd. Per the Boston Globe: “Delightfully different . . . The combination of sly humor and naiveté makes this novel a surprising and refreshing read.”
This book is being made into a movie (2026), which will be a live-action comedy starring Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson, among others.
