December isn't far away, which means reunions with loved ones and gift giving. Once again, we invite you to come shop at our craft sale on Manhattan's east side. The gifts you choose will not only delight your friends and loved ones but will additionally benefit an impoverished community in faraway Cairo, Egypt.
Proceeds from your purchases of hand-crafted rugs, jewelry, quilts, tote bags, potholders, stuffed toys, pillows and Christmas stockings will go towards the funding of a school in Mokattam, an area above Cairo's Citadel, which continues to teach women and girls from the garbage community living there reading, writing, counting, and also marketable skills like weaving, recycling paper, sewing, and embroidery. The school helps the community take a step out of poverty.
The dazzling array of goods are all hand crafted from recycled materials--discarded remnants of cotton cloth from the textile factories of Egypt, tin cans and coffee canisters, and paper acquired from Cairo's waste paper baskets.
Please allow us to be part of your holiday celebrations. We look forward to greeting friends we've made over the last thirty years or so and greeting new ones!
