Before Boston was a walking city, it was a sailing town. For most of Boston’s history, the harbor was the center of the city, and urban life was dominated by sailing ships.
Step aboard the schooner Liberty Star and into that era with experiences recorded by those who lived it: a mother, merchant, sailor, cook, poet, preacher, privateer, diplomat, cabin boy, and others. The cruise follows the paths of ships like the Flying Cloud, Astrea, and Columbia, exploring how their voyages shaped Boston and helped industrialize the country.
Sail alongside Boston’s vibrant neighborhoods, including Downtown, The Seaport District, South Boston, East Boston, Charlestown, and the North End. Enjoy stories of Boston’s diverse cultures and people that represent both Boston’s historical past and its vibrant present. While onboard enjoy spectacular views of Boston, as you explore how the age of sail shaped the city and nation.
In collaboration with the Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships, you can sail away from sirens and jackhammers while the city’s maritime history comes alive (feel free to help the crew hoist the sails!).

Snacks (chips, etc.) and beverages can be purchased on board.
As it is usually cooler on the water, we recommend bringing an extra layer
such as a light pullover or jacket.
Ticket booth for CHECK-IN is located in front of the New England Aquarium
to the left; the booth has red signs on top.
