Bonita Davis Neighbors ‘76

Bonita Davis Neighbors '76 (spouse Harold "Woody" Neighbors, PhD Haverford '75) grew up in Hillsborough, North Carolina (Orange County) during the heart of the civil rights movement.

As a child and adolescent, she lived alongside her activist parents and progressive church family during the early, and toughest, days of racial desegregation. Dr. Neighbors experienced, personally, what many people can only read about. She led the first wave of school desegregation and proceeded to be crowned the town's first Black Junior Miss. This is a life story that reflects the impact of marginalization while her family fought for upward mobility for themselves and for others in their community. Her father grew up a sharecropper and her mother grew up on a small farm in rural North Carolina.  Because of her academic standing and activities, she attended Bryn Mawr College in the early 1970s.  How did this journey impact her and define her life journey?

Please join us February 26,2024 from 7:00 -8:15 p.m. and share a special private peek into Dr. Bonita Neighbors’ life.

This presentation is open for all alums.
