The Bryn Mawr College Dance Program in collaboration with the President's Office invites you to a special performance sharing a range of dances created as a part of our current academic year programming, including the work of Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, founder of the acclaimed troupe Urban Bush Women and MacArthur Fellow.
The program will include Visiting Assistant Professor Tammy Carrasco's work in the Professional Performance Exchange, a pilot program for students to work closely with professional dance performance artists invested in the vibrancy of Philadelphia's dance and arts scene. It will also feature Anybody Here, an excerpt of the critically acclaimed choreography of MacArthur Fellow, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and restaged by former touring company member and our very own Director of Dance Lela Aisha Jones. In honor of anthropologist and dancer Dr. Pearl Primus, this excerpt was created as a part of the evening length work Walking With Pearl . . . Southern Diaries, which was commissioned by the American Dance Festival through the Doris Duke Awards for New Work with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
A reception with the dancers and refreshments will follow the performance.
