Shubha Sunder's (BMC '05) debut short story collection, Boomtown Girl, won the St. Lawrence Book Award and will be released in April by Black Lawrence Press. Set entirely in the Bangalore region of South India, the collection explores the ambitions, delusions, and struggles of people navigating a rapidly developing city. On May 3rd, Shubha will be in conversation with memoirist Grace Talusan as part of Brookline Booksmith's Transnational Literature Series. Those interested can register here. Shubha lives in Jamaica Plain and teaches creative writing at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her novel Optional Practical Training will be published in 2025 by Graywolf Press.
