Thomas MozdzerOur Speaker – Thomas Mozdzer

Thomas Mozdzer, Professor and Chair of Biology will explore rapid evolution of coastal marsh plant communities to global change, with an emphasis on the integration of rapid evolution into ecosystem science. He has studied coastal wetlands for over two decades on three continents. Thomas currently runs long-term projects at the Plum Island Ecosystems LTER (Rowley, MA) and the Smithsonian Global Change Research Wetland (Edgewater, MD) focusing on global change ecosystem ecology and his research aims to understand rapid eco-evolutionary processes.

Thomas Mozdzer started working at Bryn Mawr College in 2012, and holds a dual appointment as a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Edgewater,
MD. He completed his B.S. at Fairfield University, was a Fulbright Scholar in Poland at the Jagiellonian University, and then went on to complete his MS and PhD in Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia. As a postdoc at the Smithsonian Institution, where he was named as the Smithsonian Secretary’s Distinguished Research Fellow.

At Bryn Mawr, Thomas is Chair of Biology, works on the Sustainability Leadership Group, Undergraduate Admissions Committee, and Data Sciences Committee. Beyond Bryn Mawr, he on the Board of the Atlantic Estuarine Research Society and the Historic Harriton Association in Bryn Mawr.
